Spotify said on April 30 it is rolling out a new “Verified by Spotify” badge and additional artist profile details, as the company seeks to improve transparency and help listeners better understand the creators behind the music.
The update comes as the music industry grapples with rapid changes driven by artificial intelligence, prompting platforms to provide clearer signals of authenticity without restricting new forms of content.

The new badge will appear on artist profiles and next to artist names in search, indicating that a profile has been reviewed by Spotify and meets its criteria for authenticity and trust. The rollout will take place gradually over the coming weeks, with verification continuing on an ongoing basis.
Verification Criteria and Eligibility
According to Spotify, artists who receive the badge must meet a combination of platform and activity-based criteria. These include sustained listener engagement over time, compliance with the platform’s policies, and signals that the profile represents a real artist presence.
Such signals may include identifiable activity both on and off the platform, including concert listings, merchandise, and linked social media accounts.
At launch, profiles that primarily represent AI-generated or AI-persona artists are not eligible for verification, the company said. Spotify added that its approach to defining artist authenticity will continue to evolve as the music landscape changes.
The company also said that verification decisions will incorporate human review, rather than relying solely on automated systems, in an effort to identify artists operating in good faith.
Focus on Active and Established Artists
Spotify said it has prioritized artists with consistent fan interest and cultural relevance, rather than those experiencing short-term spikes in activity or producing functional content designed for passive listening.
At launch, more than 99% of artists that users actively search for on the platform are expected to be verified, representing hundreds of thousands of artists across genres, career stages, and regions. A majority of these are independent artists, according to the company.
The absence of a badge does not necessarily indicate a lack of authenticity, as profiles will continue to be reviewed over time.
New Artist Details Feature
Alongside the verification badge, Spotify is introducing a new artist details section, currently in beta, across all artist profiles regardless of verification status.
The feature will highlight information such as career milestones, release activity, and touring history, offering listeners additional context about an artist’s presence and activity on the platform.
Spotify compared the feature to “nutrition labels,” providing a quick and standardized snapshot of relevant information to help users better understand the artists they are listening to.
The artist details section will be accessible within the “About” area on mobile devices and through the verification banner on eligible profiles.
Broader Transparency Push
The latest update builds on a series of recent features introduced by Spotify aimed at improving transparency around music and its creators. These include tools such as SongDNA, expanded song credits, “About the Song,” and disclosures related to AI involvement.
Together, these features are intended to provide users with more context about both the music itself and the people behind it.
Gradual Rollout and Future Updates
Spotify said the verification program has been designed with both listeners and artists in mind, but acknowledged that it will continue to refine the system over time.
“As the landscape evolves, we know we won’t get everything right from day one,” the company said, adding that it plans to develop the program further based on feedback and changes in the industry.
The introduction of the “Verified by Spotify” badge marks a step toward clearer identification and trust signals on the platform, as streaming services adapt to a rapidly evolving music ecosystem shaped by new technologies.
